We provide accurate rapid COVID, influenza (flu), RSV, and strep testing services for children, backed by the advanced technology and safe and hygienic collection.
When to Test Your Child for COVID or Flu
A pediatrician will consider the test based on:
- The symptoms of your kid
- If they have been exposed to a close contact
- The prevalence of illness.
COVID-19 has similar symptoms to other diseases such as influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). One may also catch these two diseases at the same time. That’s why kids and teens might require testing for more than one virus (such as COVID-19 and flu).
What If Your Kid Comes into Contact with a COVID 19 Patient or Suspect?
If they are not fully immunized, they should be quarantined and tested straight away, even if they don’t exhibit any symptoms. Test once more five to seven days after your last interaction with the COVID-19 carrier if the first test is negative. If symptoms appear, get tested immediately.
- Test 5–7 days after the last time they had contact with the COVID-19 carrier if they have had all of their vaccinations and do not exhibit any symptoms. If symptoms appear, get tested immediately.
- Call your doctor about testing or if new symptoms appear if your child has recovered from COVID-19 within the last 90 days.
It could be advised to test at different times. Before attending indoor events with people who are not in your home, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises using a self-test, especially if you live with someone more susceptible to severe COVID-19. Testing is beneficial before a planned medical operation or trip.
What is RT-PCR Testing?
RT-PCR testing (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) is a highly accurate diagnostic method used to detect the presence of genetic material (RNA) from viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. It involves the extraction of viral RNA from a sample, followed by a series of amplification cycles that make it possible to identify even small amounts of the virus’s genetic material. RT-PCR testing has been widely utilized during the COVID-19 pandemic to diagnose and monitor the spread of the virus.
What are the Types of COVID 19 Testing for Kids
Rapid Antigen Testing
Instead of the coronavirus itself, the fast antigen test looks for antibodies—proteins produced by the body’s defenses to fight off the virus.
COVID-19 PCR Testing
A saliva sample or a nose swab is used for the PCR test. The PCR test, in contrast to the antigen test, looks for the virus itself rather than the body’s immune response to it.
COVID-19 Antibodies Testing
Antibodies to COVID-19 are found by a blood test. These are the proteins that the immune system of the body employed to combat the infection and may continue to be created to defend the body from coming into contact with the virus again.
