VISION AND HEARING SCREENS

Ensuring Healthy Vision and Sound Hearing for Now and Later!

Vision and hearing problems often show up during early childhood, but don’t appear until much later in life. So, it’s essential that parents arrange for a screening as soon as possible. These tests help pinpoint the concerns that could impact the learning. With our thorough eye exams, hearing tests, and ear tubes, we are able to get our patients on the right track for their future.

A Troubling Combination: Asthma and Allergy

Allergies and asthma generally occur together. The same triggers being responsible for allergies such as dust, pet dander, pollen, and mites may also lead to asthma signs. In fact, some people experience asthma symptoms because of their skin or food allergies which are called allergic asthma or allergy-induced asthma. Medication and some lifestyle changes can help manage the symptoms.

How Do We Diagnose Vision and Hearing Problems?

A comprehensive vision and hearing screening will be performed by our experienced professionals who will assess your child’s ability to see and hear clearly. If any problems are detected, they will be addressed as soon as possible.

A screening usually includes a visual acuity test, which measures the clarity of a person’s vision by asking them to identify letters or symbols of various sizes on cards.

Other tests may include looking at a mirror to examine eye movements, checking the eyes with an ophthalmoscope, or using an audiometer to measure how well the person can hear different frequencies.

Vision Screening

A vision screening is a type of eye exam that is often done as part of a routine check-up by a pediatrician or family physician. The goal of this type of exam is to find any problems with your child’s vision before they become more serious. A vision screening includes:

  • An assessment of visual acuity (how well your child sees)
  • A test for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and other conditions that affect distance vision
  • A test for how well your child sees at night (night blindness)

Hearing Screening

A hearing screening measures how well you can hear. This type of exam generally helps identify children who may have some degree of hearing loss and need more tests to find out the extent of their hearing loss. During this screening, an audiologist will check to see if your child can hear pure tones (high-pitched sounds), which are usually measured.
